So, as you may have noticed, I have a shiny new badge over on the right-hand side of my blog – yes, I am now a Foodbuzz Featured Publisher! Happy times! I’m just glad that I’ll be able to share my Feeder habits with you all with Foodbuzz behind me – I’m gon’ make you fat. Actually, one of my friends said that to me the other day – we went for a coffee and she said that if we lived together I would definitely make her put on a lot of weight because of my Feeder ways. I guess that’s a compliment to my cooking…

Anyway, Foodbuzz aside, you may have noticed that I have some new toys! There’s a fantastic cooks’ haven called Whisk where I often go to gaze upon their beautiful cookware and lust after items I can’t afford. However, thanks to the end of formalised education and my continued part-time job selling posh baby items (ooOOOooh, seriously though, you having a baby? I can hook you up with some badass stuff), I’m in the money and slowly but surely I’m working on building up my perfect kitchen.

Now I like gadgets just as much as any other aspiring Heston Blumenthall (but female. And with a much easier name to pronounce), but too many gadgets in your kitchen just screams hassle and mess to me. Sure, they may be fun to play with at first, but then you’ve gotta clean ’em up! And put ’em away! And deep down I am just far too lazy for all that hassle. And storage space?! Hello. However, the one thing I was severely lacking were measuring cups and measuring spoons. I KNOW. How does one bake without these vital items? With great deviation between recipe and product, that’s how. NO LONGER SHALL I HAVE MISSHAPEN BAKED GOODS, NO! Those inaccurately measured proportional ways are behind me! I mean, just LOOK at that beautiful set of measuring cups! Look! They’re red and gorgeous! And they come with a leveller! And they didn’t cost me an arm and a leg! I KNOW.

And Now For Something Completely Different…

As you may be able to tell I’m somewhat of a prolific cook and poster of recipes. So I’m taking a little break here from the food just to talk about, well, me. Big surprise there. So hold tight and prepare to be taken on a journey of all things Jackie. Well. Sort of.

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, my family are big foodies. We love to cook, we love to eat, we love to criticise. My mom is my best, and most severe, critic. My constant taste tester, I know from one eyebrow raise whether my food is a hit or a miss. I’d like to say more often than not it’s a hit, but there’s always something missing…

However, we’re more than just a family who love food, it’s in our blood. My grandmother in Hong Kong is a well-known cook and baker, the Delia Smith or Martha Stewart of Hong Kong, I suppose you could say. She still does a lot of charity and TV work, which she loves, and is apparently working on a cookbook with my dad, who’s a doctor. It’s a long story for another day. She’s an all round pretty amazing woman, though, who singlehandedly created a cooking empire.
I would love to be my Aunt May. She lives in Sydney and travels all over the world, eating at some of the most amazing restaurants and (luckily for me) taking photos of it all. She recently got back from a solo trip to Andalucia and fell in love with Spain, but I’m most jealous of her frequent trips to Japan. She’s also a fantastic cook – like I said, I’d love to be her. Blog Announcement: Releasing My Inner Foodie Communist

So, as you may have noticed, I’ve cleaned up the functionality and given the blog a bit of a long overdue facelift. Along with the new and improved look I’ve decided to start my new project which I’ve been mulling over for about a week.

I’ve been thinking about starting up a little interactive food-related feature on this here blog which I’ve named, Releasing My Inner Communist: Food For The People, By The People. I kind of tested it by rolling it out on Kudocities, formerly known as London By London, a place where fellow Londoners could get together to share knowledge about the city we live in, and mostly love to hate. Hey, we’re British: moaning is what we do. Anyway, the response was pretty good and so I’ve decided to roll it out for realsies.

The idea is that you send me a recipe of yours that you really want to see photographed, featured on this blog, and, more importantly, shared with the world, and I make it. I know. Simples. And, as a further added incentive, I will select one recipe at the end of a certain period of time (it depends on how many entrants I get for this) and that person will receive a personalised gift basket from moi, containing various London food-related goodies! Now does that sound good or what?

So, to leave this one open enough that you guys can submit recipes to me (and that I have time to make them), I’m going to give you the whole summer, up until the end of August to submit recipes to me. The only stipulation is that they must be Summer-themed.

Please feel free to submit anything you like, but bear in mind that I currently do not own a BBQ in my flat (guess why) so any recipes that require BBQs will either have to wait to be tested until I can commandeer a friend’s BBQ kit, or suffer some form of indoor cooking!

Mini-post today, sad to say no recipes but that’s because… I’m off to Spain for a week! So here’s a photo of me instead, taken last summer by the boyfriend. See his work here or his Flickr photostream here.

I wasn’t planning on bringing my camera to Espana, but after a quick Skype sesh with the boyfriend I’ve decided that it will go in my luggage, mostly because we plan on going on a few adventures around the south and it’d be foolish not to bring the camera to play with and go on photo excursions. Yes, we are that couple.

Sorry, little distracted, someone outside my window is gunning their car like crazy at nearly 1am. Anyway.

The appearance of said camera hopefully means that I’ll be able to take a couple of food-related photos and then post about it when I get back, but don’t get your hopes up – I’m notoriously bad at taking photos in actual restaurants/eateries because I’m a wuss. People stare at you when you’ve got an SLR pointed at your food and you’re leaning backwards trying to get the best shot possible. In fact, when I first got my Nikon D60, I was in Wagamama’s with my best friend and because my go-to lens (of two) is my 50mm I was leaning right back off the bench to snap my ramen. I was leaning so far back the waiter walked into my head. Luckily he was pretty cool about it, and even asked me as I was leaving if I’d managed to get some good shots of my food. As a matter of fact, I did. This was our edamame with chilli and garlic:

Fast But No Food (For Now)

Just a quickie to say that I’m back from Portland but haven’t been doing any cooking worth noting. Have a list of stuff that I’m going to get on with over the next couple of weeks, however, so expect some tasties soon!
