The Sound Of The Fat Lady

Sadly, the road for ‘I Am A Feeder’ stops here, as I’ve not advanced to round nine. But that’s okay! Because I made it to the final 24 and that’s pretty darn good! Plus, had loads of fun (and stress) doing it, and though I won’t be getting any extra cashish to help fund my three month trip, I have many more things to be thankful for! Like the super awesome bloggers I’ve met (and had so many silly moments with via. Twitter – to anybody I’ve weirded out along the way, I apologise profusely… and invite you to join in!), the amazing creativity of all of them, and friendships formed. Thanks to Project Food Blog I’m actually staying with people I’ve never met before, who have opened up their homes to me, offered to show me around their cities, and make sure that I get fed really well. I’m meeting a whole bunch more and if I’m anywhere near you I would love to meet you too! Send me an email or drop me a comment!

I’d also like to use this opportunity to say a public thank you to two people who have supported me in so many ways: Momma Lee & David. You hear about these two quite a lot from me and I wouldn’t expect that to change any time soon: I love them both very dearly. Momma Lee has sacrificed hours to help me get last minute ingredients, and listened to me as I rambled and shaped ideas. She has been my proof-reader, encourager and giver of hugs, & talked sense into me when I’ve had a mid-week freak out. David has been my biggest fan from start to finish, offered me support and advice, spoken kind words when I needed them and stern admonishments when I needed those too. Not to mention the fact that he re-built my entire site about three entries in to the competition, working tirelessly (and patiently) to make sure that we could roll it out on time. I attribute much of my success to the creativity and hard-work that these two people inspire within me – I hope I’ve made you both proud.

So, here’s where I’m going to be and when – let me know if we can share a meal! I would like nothing more!

10th – 20th January: Hong Kong
20th – 31st January: Sydney & Melbourne (Melbourne: 26th – 29th)
31st – 7th February: Vancouver BC
7th – 16th February: Portland OR & Seattle WA (Seattle: dates TBC)
16th – 21st February: San Francisco CA (could use a tour guide or two!)
21st – 24th February: San Diego CA (it’s my 24th birthday on the 23rd!)
24th February – 1st March: Austin & San Antonio TX (San Antonio: dates TBC)
1st – 3rd March: Chicago IL
3rd – 5th March: Boston MA
5th – 13th March: New Jersey & New York (New York: dates TBC)

Thank you to the Judges, fellow Featured Publishers (there are a handful of you who have championed me from the start: I won’t name all of you here, but you know who you are!), friends and family, & you for helping me reach this point in the competition; if there’s one thing I’ve learnt it’s that the pool of talent out there is boundless, but the individuality of each shines through. I’m proud to have been part of that. And hey, there’s exciting stuff coming up over here, so come on back now! Nom Man and I continue on! Congratulations to the remaining twelve contestants – I look forward to seeing who’s crowned #1!

Until next time, friends – peace and love.

Jax x

Oh no!! I see that LA is woefully missing from your list. Why, oh why oh why?!! LA is super! Why San Diego, but not LA? They’re kinda, sorta close.

But anyway. Congrats on making it to the top 24, that is a huge feat. You’ve done awesome, and each post has only been better and better. I also thank PFB because I don’t think I might have “met” you and fallen in love with you and Nom Nom Man otherwise.

You’ll be blogging throughout your travels, right? :-)

  3. chanel11 Says:

Congratulations on your journey with ‘I am a feeder’ – you did us all proud.

Also, loving the cute outfit in the top pic – nice ;)

  4. Nom Nom Mama Says:

Nom Nom Mama a.k.a. Momma Lee also wants to declare publically her thanks to all who have defended Feeder Daughter. It goes without saying how proud she is of her Baby Cookie, and how much she loves her. Chow Chow folks (yes, I’m as mad as they come.)

  5. Sarah Says:

I’m in San Francisco, anxiously awaiting your arrival!! Would love to sit down and FEED with you. Congrats on an amazing job in the competition!

Way to go on making the most out of the challenges and remembering that it’s about the fun and the people! You did great!

I’d be delighted to meet up and do a snack or food truck crawl or something similar when you’re in NYC!

  13. Brian @ A Thought For Food Says:

Just looking back on all of your past entries, I had a huge smile form on my face. Nom Time definitely needs to become a reality. What a great name for a cooking show (and, not to offend, but it does have that kooky British ring to it) ;-)

  14. Anne P Says:

Congrats on making it so far! Very gracious post :)

  15. Reeni Says:

I am so proud of you! You made it further than anyone else I know. Every one of your entries was impressive. You are a bright, shining star! I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for you.

I think I’m going to be in Florida when you are in NY – BOO!

  16. Monet Says:

You did such a great job. I was so sad to see you go. But I am SO VERY EXCITED to see you in Austin. It will be so much fun. Thank you so much for sharing! Have a good Sunday afternoon.

  17. Margaret Murphy Tripp Says:

I’m sure your dance card is probably already full, but if you have any time while in Boston, I could take a day trip there!

  18. IslandEAT Says:

Hi, Jax. You were a wonderful competitor, so you deserved to be proud. Well done!

Your travel plans are wide-ranging, and you’ve picked many good places, though I’ve never been to HK or the two Texas cities (just Dallas and Amarillo, I’m afraid). If you’re not over your Ozzie jetlag, maybe you’ll have to recover here on our quiet island. Our one French restaurant will be closed when you visit (the owner from Avignon goes to Goa for the winter…). We’ll have to feed ourselves.

    Pip pip cheerio to you.

  19. Amelia from Z Tasty Life Says:

Too bad humour (the British kind especially) was not on the voters top list…because you, darling, are hilarious and fun and sweet all at the same time!!!
Sending you and Nom-nom an intercontinental hug. LOVE, Amelia
P.s. No Atlanta stops??? There’s some great food places, happy to host you, dine you and wine you, if you re-route :)

  20. Jackie Says:

Thanks for the support and kind words, all!

Sophia – sadly LA isn’t on the list! I have family in LA and have been several times, so I decided not to include it this trip, but don’t worry, I’ll most likely be in LA before too long and then you and I shall go crazy ;)

Sarah – can’t wait! I’ll drop you an email nearer the time!

Jen – brilliant! Email me and we can figure out plans!

Heather – would love to, not sure when I’m in NYC, but email me and we can organise =)

Reeni – nooo! Guess that means you’ll just have to hop over the pond and see me soon… ;)

Dan – feed ourselves, you say?! I’m making a list of ALL the things I’ve been craving from you…!

Amelia – I’d love to do Atlanta, but sadly the trip is all booked this time round (and there are apparently exorbitant fees to pay if I change my plans!). Next time, promise! You should come visit me in London if you find yourself back on this side of the pond!

  23. Jackie Says:

Ash – now that’s something we can Al Green on… ;)

Jun – aw, you’re sweet! And that top photo is actually how/when I met David! I look a little retarded in it, but the colours are awesome.
