The Graduate

Gangsta Grad, originally uploaded by jaxies.

I know, this is a food blog and I should be posting about food, but y’know what? I’m going to take a moment away from food today to talk about my fave subject (apparently): me!

As you may have guessed from the above photo (of me pulling a ridiculous face) I’ve graduated! Yep, I am now the proud owner of a shiny bit of paper that declares that I am a holder of a BA Joint Honours in American & English Studies, classification 2:1. Bow-chicka-wow-wow.

Today was spent driving up to Nottingham, hurriedly getting ready, rushing to my ceremony, nearly being late for my ceremony (STRESS), being told off by the people who dress you in your cap and gown because I ran away and started dressing myself, anticipation and build-up for the best part of an hour to be followed by a slightly anti-climactic 30 second stint walking across the stage to applause and gentle whoops from a couple of friends, bowing to the Chancellor, shaking the Registrar’s hand, being ushered off the stage and back to my seat with a shiny bit of paper in my hand, squeezing out of the graduation hall, official graduation photos, seeing my face all over the merchandise tent thanks to a publicity film I did for the university two years ago (so surreal, the girls on the merchandise table couldn’t stop laughing when they realised it was me), lots and lots and lots of photos with the family, hugs with friends and complimentary Pimm’s and snacks, rushing off to dinner at Chino Latino, driving back to London, collapsing into bed.

So it was a pretty busy day. Anyway, as I am currently typing this in bed (I seem to do that a lot with posts) and am about to fall asleep, I shall leave you with some photos of my day, and tomorrow we’ll be back to food. Promise.

That’s all folks. Until next time, peace and love.

Warmest congratulations! I'm sure you have put a lot of effort and time into your degree (because you all do things with such excellence). You looked stunning, and your family is beautiful. I hope you enjoyed your special day (and i love hearing about you!)

Hi, Jax. I can't recall whether I congratulated you already, so if I have, congrats again. If not, (what is wrong with me?) then… congratulations! (Isn't there an old British song which then continues, "and jubilations…"?)

I hope you will celebrate in style, i.e., fine champagne, if that's your thang.

But I do have to ask about the expression – what, no family kissy face this time?

    Enjoy the glow,

Thanks everybody! You're all lovely =) It was a lovely day, my family are super duper proud of me and I'm very happy (and relieved?) to be out of formalised education finally! It feels like it's been an age!…it kinda has… ha. Story for another day!

And Dan – I know, I feel like I've let the side down slightly on that front. Maybe another day when I'm feeling less self-conscious I'll pull the magical kissy-face and all will be right once more… although Papa Lee can't actually do it any more! So I'm keeping the dream alive… ;)
